Nostalgia During Wednesday Night Meets

Tomorrow evening I will be talking to my sisters via Google Meets. It’s something we started during COVID 19 when my dad’s health was failing, and we’ve kept up it up since.

My sisters and I all live in different states. Dianne is the eldest, and she lives in North Carolina. Sue’s in the middle and resides in Michigan the state of our childhood, while I live the farthest from the Great Lakes state in Texas. Each of us is tech savvy enough to video conference weekly, which has kept us emotionally and socially the closest as a threesome we’ve ever been.

Our conversations usually center on family and what’s going on in our lives that week. We sometimes get nostalgic and talk of memories from long ago. One of my favorites was reminiscing about cool games from the late 60s and early 70s and their outrageous value on eBay and Amazon today.

Out of three games we ranked highest, Ice Cube comes in third. Ice Cube was played with actual ice cubes. The object of the game was to be the last ice cube standing. You could use one of the head molds as a token or an actual ice cube. Using an ice cube was the easiest to prepare, and its volume, compared to the head mold, made the game last longer.

Ice Cube was most popular during the hot summer months when we would escape to the basement to play this messy, watery game. A spinner was involved, and you wanted to avoid places like the salt mine, hot head, and warm bath. An advantageous spin would be when your player was sent to ice bergs. Here’s a screen shot of what Ice Cube is selling for today. I’ve included the direct link if you’re interested in buying one. Games ranked second and first in mine and my sisters’ opinions will be in a future post. Stay tuned.
